Riders Back to School with JAG

JAG Foundation takes JAG ALLSTARS Absa Cape Epic riders to experience the JAG programmes 1st hand.

In 2010, 12 teams took part in the Absa Cape Epic for the benefit of the JAG Foundation. Many of the JAG riders said what kept them going each day was realizing this race was not only about their personal satisfaction but for a greater purpose, the benefit of the kids.

JAG recently took their riders on a trip to couple of the JAG supported skills schools to experience first hand where all of their fundraising efforts have gone. They visited Bonteheuwal, one of the 8 clusters in the Western Cape where JAG operates. The JAG team was joined on the bus by Derrick Baard of Earthworld team and Paul Winter & Mark Everdij from JAG it Up team.

The JAG team’s first stop was Rosewood Primary, the home of 569 Mighty Metres runners. The school has been on the programme since JAG first started in 2008 and it has been one of the most proactive and supportive schools. Kids at this school run 3-5 times a week and their progress is being registered on a massive Mighty Metres chart.

They then visited the Metropolitan Sports Field in Bonties, where 120 U9 JAG Rugby players were participating in their weekly mini rugby inter-schools tournament. This coincided with a coaching clinic held by the Western Province Rugby Development (WPRD) division.

It was great for the JAG riders to finally see where their Absa Cape Epic efforts and funds have gone to. To find out more information about the programs that JAG run visit www.jagfoundation.org.za and to read the full news story click here.
